Getting Around

Fuerteventura is easy to navigate with a range of transport readily available. The public buses are a cheap way for visitors to explore the island, most holiday makers tend to use taxis and hire cars as it offers extra flexibility during your stay. The islands are full of cycling and hiking trails for the adventurous and there are daily boat services to shuttle visitors between each island.

 

Hiring a car is cheap, easy and highly recommended. The island’s main roads are easy to navigate and well looked after, the smaller roads can be more of a challenge. Driving is on the left.

You can have a great time on any of the following beaches in Fuerteventura, plus loads we’ve not listed – there are so many choices!

  • Playa Grande. This beach provides about 4km of towel space, so there is plenty of room for families to enjoy the soft golden sand. Playa Grande is said to be the main beach in Corralejo and therefore a good place for Fuerteventura family holidays. Kitesurfing is popular, and you will also find nudist bathing as you go further south if this sort of thing floats your boat!
  • Gran Tarajal. Gran Tarajal is situated between the high, dusty mountains of the interior and the waves of the island's eastern shore. This beach hosts a montage of Spanish mezze joints and tapas houses. It is an ideal place to taste some uber-fresh Fuerteventura fish under the warm sunshine.
  • El Cotillo. The waves at El Cotillo are suitable for all levels of surfing if you love to hit the waves. You can join oodles of surf schools which are set in El Cotillo town if you are a beginner too. If you are advanced, you can choose surf packages where you can surf on secret reef spots and harder waves!
